I did warn you it was going to be geek talk! I seem to always be looking online for these tips so I figured I will put them in the one area so I don’t have to Google it all the time.

Apple Boot Key Combos:

  • Bypass startup drive and boot from external (or CD)…. CMD-OPT-SHIFT-DELETE
  • Boot from CD (Most late model Apples) …………….. C
  • Boot from a specific SCSI ID #.(#=SCSI ID number)…… CMD-OPT-SHIFT-DELETE-#

  • Disable Extensions ……………………………… SHIFT

  • Close finder windows.(hold just before finder starts).. OPT

After startup:

  • Bring up dialogue for shutdown/sleep/restart……….. POWER

Dos commands for network trouble shooting

  1. getmac – This tool will enable you to display the MAC addresses on a system.
  2. hostname – machine name on the network
  3. netstat – displays protocol statistics and TCP/IP network connections
  4. pathping – is a middle solution which bundles the functionality delivered by traceroute and ping

WINKEY + D

Brings the desktop to the top of all other windows

Minimizes all windows.

Cycle through open programs through the taskbar
