TinyBig cats are exactly that.  Big.  Very big.  And when you are face to face with them, with only a thin wire fence (thankfully a very stable wire fence) between you and the cat, you start to realise exactly why they are kings of the jungle.

For Kim’s birthday, we ventured down to Headcorn in Kent (a very small town) to see a private wildlife enclosure with lot of… well, cats!  Not only big ones, there were some small ones too, but apparently quite dangerous!  It was a photography workshop where you can get up close and (very) personal with the big (and small) beautiful creatures and even pat them (at the non-biting end).  I got the idea from a friend who had previously done something similar.  What an awesome experience!

TigerWhat amazing animals they are.  They are exactly like the smaller domestic cats we love and cuddle daily… they meow (we heard a cheetah meow, so cute), they lick their paws and groom themselves and one tiger, in particular, was not a fan of water :)  Initially I was terrified, but in the end, all I wanted to do was jump in there and give each of them a cuddle!  Especially the lions – believe it or not – and that was AFTER the lead photographer used his labrador as ‘bait’ to fire up Tiny, the lion, for some good action shots!

The weather was absolutely glorious – the last of the good weather here in England it would now seem!  We took a truckload of amazing photo’s that we will never be able to choose from to enlarge!  They’re in the photo gallery if you’re interested.

We were lucky enough to see these amazing creatures:

  • African Lion
  • Snow Leopard (who use their incredibly long tails as scarves in the winter)
  • Sumatran Tiger
  • Cheetah
  • Amur Tiger
  • Bengal Tiger
  • Serval
  • Pallas Cats

The wildlife heritage foundation do an excellent job looking after these amazing creatures and we would both have no hesitation doing it all over again!
