SouthendYou’re thinking South, right? Well, wrong. To be honest, there is not much “South” about Southend-on-Sea at all! Instead, we headed west from London to Essex to meet up with some great mates for the day. Only to discover we could see where the Thames meets the sea :) And you guessed it, it’s on the North side of the Thames ;)

One interesting fact you might not know about, Southend is home to the world’s largest pleasure pier - a whopping 2.158km in length. Ok, so not very interesting after all, but this place is fabulous! Think of those scary movies where the villain is lurking below the pier and the carnival rides in the background. I swear the directors of those films have been to Southend. We walked the plank… er… pier right to the end and got the funky train ride back.

They also have pretty impressive Rossi Ice Cream too… yummo. So anyway - don’t say we aren’t exploring Britain, we went to Southend-on-Sea!

One Response to “Where in the world is Southend-on-Sea?”

Hiya Phillipa - glad you and Kim enjoyed yourselves! As to why Southend is called that is because the original old part of the town is called Prittlewell and Southend is at the “south end” of Prittlewell - see it’s totally logical ;-)
