TKDBlackFour long years training and preparing for this day… And we did it!!! We worked our butts off and got our black belts for Taekwondo!

We were so nervous for the whole week leading up to the big day. We’ve been working hard every night, reciting the club oath, going over our Korean terminology, practicing patterns, breaking boards (thanks to Ivan for helping with these!), self defense and discussing tactics for our fighting.

But it all paid off in the end.

We got to the dojang early (we’re very rarely early to TKD). Nervous, we started warming up while watching some yellow belts go for their grading. Nerves were still working hard when we were called up to join 3 red belts going for their gradings (1st, 2nd Gup and Cho Dan Bo).

Being the seniors, we quickly noticed that our hard work had indeed paid off. We were well prepared and although we made our (minor) mistakes, we fought on to convince our Kwanjangnims that we were worthy of wearing black belts :)

I think I injured Kim a little in the self defense doing a hip throw - I hope he’s not in pain for too long! We each fought 3 opponents with 2 rounds each person. Kim got to show off his “WOW kick” - thankfully not on me :) We didn’t actually fight each other, which we were relieved at because it would have been quite challenging given we’ve fought each other a million times and know each others tactics!

We finished with breaking boards. Kim demonstrated a fantastic jumping side kick that I swear looked like one of those films in slow motion where he was completely in the air for a good 2 seconds! hehe

Our Sebonim (Dale Black, pictured) made us feel so proud of our achievement! He took us out for coffee and cake to chat about how we went and what we will do next! We’re so excited!!

Here are the dimensions of the boards we broke…

    YAY WE DID IT!!!!

After all the years of training week after week we have finally got there. Yes you are seeing right, they’re Black Belts around our waists.

While doing self defense with Phil she did a huge hip throw and with a thud my poor battered body hit the ground. When i was getting off the floor i heard the other students whispering “ohhh that would hurt” and you know what - it did. All in the name of TKD.

Phil - nothing like having your little sister protect you - it’s cool if i pick the fights and then run and stand behind you - isn’t it?!?!

So Kim, what’s it like having a chick (soon to be wife) that can literally kick the crap out of you?

Congratulations guys - well done - all the bruises and sore bodies are now worth it, aren’t they!!!

    Hey Guys,

That’s absolutely awesome! Congratulations :-) I certainly wont be messing with either of you!

Hope you aren’t too bruised up Kim.
